About the artist:

Farideh Shahsavarani is a Tehran-based painter, photographer, Video Art and Installation artist. While she began her artistic career as a painter, over time, she sought out new tools and medias to further her ability to express herself and convey the human condition. Her 2006 boundary-pushing installation, “I Wrote, You Read,” in Tehran in the abandoned headquarters of the state-run newspaper, commented on the lack of journalistic freedom – due to the location, it was taken down after one week. Her work was discussed in Pamela Karimi's book Alternative Iran about the contemporary art scene.

Shahsavarani holds an MFA in Painting and served as Department Chair of the Graphic Department and of the Design and Fashion Department at Azad University in Tehran, where she taught in various fields of art and served as a member of the faculty board of the Architecture group. She is a Member of the Association of Iranian Painters (AIP) and a Member of the Visual Art Development Center of Iran. She has had over 18 solo exhibitions and been featured in over 200 group exhibitions and film festivals in Iran, as well as the United States, Russia, France, and more.
